Dear Reader,
We can only apologise for the delay with our regularly scheduled fortnightly issues; it appears most of the team was having issues with the signal on their friend’s quaint 80-footer in the middle of The Pacific/on their Alpine health retreat (aka rehab)/whilst testing their newly installed Doomsday bunkers (delete where necessary). As we ease into the pending Summer, with some of us taking our self-prescribed ‘Out Of Office’ a little more seriously than others, this issue is going to be all about the things we at the club are engaging in during our downtime. Original members will remember our beloved ‘Watch, Read, Listen’ segment, which we will be revisiting in today’s issue, but first, here are some updates from around the club!
From Around the Club
Members asked for a way to add a little more Rhubarb to their lives, and there was an overwhelming demand for iron-on patches. So, we are happy to inform our members that we do, in fact, listen to their requests and suggestions (and that anonymous complaints in the suggestion box aren’t so anonymous when written on the back of ones business card, Nicholas) and that iron-on patches are now the latest addition to our Club Shop.
The three options include Wimbledon Rhubarb, Champagne Rhubarb, and Driving Rhubarb. It’s time to ask your housekeeper which drawer your Christy’s tea towels are in and where on earth the iron is kept (and probably how to use it whilst you’re at it).
We recommend adding your patches to anything that will take an iron.
We are also offering free shipping for UK orders as well as 3 patches for £21.
We would also like to give members a sneak peek into our next release – our Canine Sporting Knit. We will be starting first access pre-orders for this on June 9th to our private members before social member orders on June 13th. Our first drop will only be available in sizes S, M, and L. Feedback depending, we will look to release XS, XL, and XXL should your dogs be suffering from FOMO! We have also made some amends to the original design after some feedback, and we have included a small hole for harness wearers. We have also decided to move the embroidered patch to sit on the chest so that it can be more clearly seen when ones dog is sitting.
This will later be accompanied by a matching jumper for owners, which will be sold in unisex sizing for a more oversized fit.
We are also very happy to let members know that our June Menu has been updated, with all current items selected by our new intern. For newer members, our monthly menu edits are updated with products that are used, loved, or approved by the committee, with new additions throughout the month. This is a wonderful page to peruse for members looking for some additional inspriation.
Overheard
reported by various members of staff and member’s who have nothing better to do
A member complaining about the clay from their recent Roland Garros trip staining their white Panama hat, another member looking for Italian food recommendations between Milan and Florence, a member seeking advice on how to best clean the inside of their Rhubarb Society Court Cap (presumably also related to Roland Garros clay), numerous complaints surrounding the lack of space for an ice bucket in the LED sauna, a member looking for London recommendations for a girl’s weekend, another member loudly complaining about not being invited to said member’s girl’s weekend in London.

Watch, Read, Listen
a selection of books, shows, articles, audiobooks, and films we’ve been indulging in recently – a selection that will have you fully covered with everything from the spiritual to the sporty
Roanoke’s Requiem – The fascinating and heartbreaking story of an unexplainable cancer surge targeting Roanoke College’s young alumni. With Roanoke sharing its name with the mysterious “lost colony” that disappeared in the late 16th century and its infamous location, Salem, this unexplainable phenomenon has sparked multiple opposing theories as to why this might be happening.
Douglas Is Cancelled – From the brilliant writer behind some of the most iconic British shows in recent years (Sherlock, Doctor Who), Steven Moffat is back with his new show ‘Douglas Is Cancelled’, a witty satire on the state of cancel culture. Douglas, played by Hugh Bonneville, is a news presenter whose career is on the line after he is overheard supposedly making a sexist joke at a wedding. Whilst the four-part show doesn’t air until the end of June, we at the club have watched the whole series, and our assessment is that this acerbic and hilarious take on cancel culture is one to add to your ‘must-watch’ lists.
Many Lives, Many Masters by Dr Brian Weiss – As a graduate of Columbia University and Yale Medical School, psychiatrist Dr Brian Weiss had always been conditioned to put science first. He then meets a patient named Catherine. When his traditional methods of therapy fail, Dr Weiss turns to hypnosis. Catherine begins recalling past-life traumas, which seem to hold the key to her problems, much to Dr Weiss’s astonishment and scepticism. Even if you don’t believe in past lives, this book is a fascinating account of everything both Dr Weiss and Catherine discovered and learned through these sessions.
Break Point – With The French Open coming to a close tomorrow and Wimbledon only a few weeks away, what better time to revisit a tennis documentary? Break Point is a Netflix documentary that follows the top tennis players throughout the year as they travel the world competing in Grand Slams and ATP and WTA tours, as well as the drama that follows them. It was also produced by the same team behind Drive to Survive, so if you’re looking for a segway into a new sport to fill that Formula One shaped void, this might be the one for you.
Butter (Audiobook) – Inspired by the real case of the convicted con woman and serial killer, “The Konkatsu Killer”, Asako Yuzuki’s Butter is a vivid, unsettling exploration of misogyny, obsession, romance and the transgressive pleasures of food in Japan.
Hit Man – Richard Linklater is a director best known for his decade-spanning works (the ‘Before’ trilogy and ‘Boyhood’ for example), and it can be easy to forget he is also the same man behind School of Rock and Dazed and Confused. Hit Man, a story about a mild-mannered professor moonlighting as a fake contract killer who falls in love with a client, is a reminder of some of Linklater’s earlier work. It’s a mashup of thriller, comedy, and rom-com, with Glen Powell giving a roaring performance from start to finish. Above all, this film is FUN, despite its darker moments.
Monocle Radio (The Entrepreneurs) – The beloved magazine (and coffee shop) has its own radio show, split into topics that they famously write about. ‘The Entrepreneurs’ is their weekly tour of the most inspiring people, companies and ideas in global business, covering everything from startups to heritage brands and the best in hospitality, design, fashion and retail. There is a backlog of episodes dating back to 2011, so there’s enough to keep you busy.
When The Body Says No – If you have ever attributed any of your physical symptoms to stress but not looked much further than that, this book is for you. Drawing on deep scientific research and Dr Gabor Maté’s acclaimed clinical work, When the Body Says No provides the answers to critical questions about the mind-body link and the role that stress and our emotional makeup can play in an array of common diseases. Whilst not everything in here should be taken as gospel, it’s always useful to consider another perspective on one’s health.
